3 More Common Commercial Uses For Stainless Steel
In a previous post, we explored four of the most common industries that make use of stainless steel components, including the sanitary valves here at Chemseal.
The industries we discussed were the cutlery manufacturing, chemicals, processing, oil, and gas industries. These are only the beginning, however. Now we’ll continue our discussion of stainless steel applications with three more commercial industries that benefit from stainless steel.
POWER GENERATION
Fossil fueled power is another industry that places high demand on valves. Pipes, tanks, and valves in these facilities are constantly bombarded with high temperatures and corrosive substances. Everything from coal and gas all the way to nuclear power utilizes stainless steel because of its durability, which translates into the ability to keep the lights on.
FOOD PRODUCTION
This is an industry that’s near and dear to our hearts at Chemseal because it’s survival depends on the hygiene provided by our stainless steel sanitary valves, clamps, tubing, and accessories. “An important reason for using stainless steels is not so much the corrosiveness of the food itself as well as the fact that the use of stainless allows for faster and more efficient cleaning,” explains Valve-World. “For example in ice cream production 316 is specified so that strong anti-bacteriological cleaning and rinsing systems can be used.” Stainless steel is also beneficial because there’s no chance that it will impart a suspicious taste to the food or drink.
MEDICAL INDUSTRY
Do you have an elderly relative who’s had a medical implant or surgery to install an artificial hip? If so, than you’ve see the miracle of stainless steel at work in the medical industry. In fact, many of the things you see in hospitals or pharmaceutical facilities are made from stainless steel, including orthopaedic beds, cabinets, examination machines, pill funnels and equipment for piping creams and solutions. Once again, the hygienic and easy-clean characteristics of stainless steel make it ideal for environments in which sterilization is of the utmost importance.
If your company happens to be represented on this list, or you’re a company that services these industries, please know that it’s our mission to be your partner in success.
